Miami and Key Biscayne are headed back to court after months of negotiations failed to yield a settlement on the issues surrounding the historically designated Miami Marine Stadium.
Miami plans to renovate and rent out the site for the area’s annual boat show and was granted approval by the city commission. Key Biscayne is concerned about the impact on Virginia Key and has filed three lawsuits to halt plans to commercialize the city-owned property. The two municipalities appeared to be on the verge of a settlement, but Key Biscayne’s Mayor declared an impasse last week.
Key Biscayne has filed an amended complaint in one of the cases to ask the state court to stop the project. The village is seeking to uphold the Virginia Key Master Plan, which was approved in 2010 with the goal of guiding development and protecting the island’s natural resources. [Law360]
