Auberge Beach Residences & Spa In Fort Lauderdale

A $180M project on the sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach is complete.

The Auberge Beach Residences & Spa at 2200 North Ocean Blvd. consists of two residential towers —18 and 23 stories, respectively — with a total of 161 units. The project represents a new era for the site.

For 50 years, the beachfront location was home to Ireland's Inn, considered something of an institution for Fort Lauderdale. In 1956, the Ireland family built a seven-story hotel that won architectural awards. But it fell into disrepair and closed around the time of the 2008 housing crisis. Related Group bought the site for $27.1M in 2010, and Ireland's Inn was demolished in 2015.

In those intervening years, Fort Lauderdale Beach transformed from a spring break mecca to a high-end destination with a Ritz-Carlton, a W and a Four Seasons. Auberge Beach Residences & Spa is aiming to offer a similar upscale experience.

The project was developed by Related Group, Fortune International Group, Fairwinds Group and Auberge Resorts Collection. Auberge, which operates high-end properties in Napa Valley, Aspen and Fiji, is managing all aspects of the property.

The buildings were designed with features like breakaway walls and waterproof foundations for resilience against hurricanes and sea-level rise.club When Hurricane Irma hit during construction, a crane crashed into the sales center.

The project will be home to a restaurant, Dune, also run by Auberge Resorts Collection. It plans to officially open Nov. 30. To operate it, the company is bringing in Executive Chef Edgar Beas from Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he ran Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi.

Other amenities include 50 feet of ocean frontage, a spa, a wine cellar, 24/7 valet and concierge, a fitness center and pool, a golf simulator, a children’s playroom and a clubroom. The project was designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates.

Units range in size from one to five bedrooms and 1,500 to 5K SF, with some penthouses also available; one sold for $9.5M, a record in Broward County. A spokesperson for Related Group said pricing started at $1.5M, and that the North Tower is completed and sold out, with buyers now moving in. The South Tower has less than 20% inventory remaining, and should be completed by the end of this year.

Related Group's Carlos Rosso told Bisnow the company is considering reviving another Auberge-branded project, a 1,400-unit building planned for Downtown Miami that was shelved in 2017 as the market cooled.
