Skanska USA signed a $101M contract to build The Patricia & Philip Frost Museum of Science in the Museum Park Complex, the company reports. The 250k SF museum, designed by Grimshaw Architects, will feature a sustainable roof, a five-story innovation center and a 500,000-gallon saltwater aquarium. (You'll need to resist the urge to verbally taunt the sharks.)
The museum, which will be next to the Pérez Art Museum, is expected to attract over 600,000 visitors to Miami each year. It’s another win for Miami tourism along with the recent approval of the massive Worldcenter development, which will include a convention center, 765k SF of retail and an 1,800-room Marriot Marquis. (With everyone downtown sightseeing and shopping, does that mean we'll finally have an empty beach?)
