California state officials are considering easing water restrictions for certain communities with fast growth or hotter temperatures.
In the Bay Area, the easing of restrictions could provide some relief for fast-growing areas, such as Silicon Valley. A bit inland, it could account for more water needed for landscapes in cities such as Concord, Brentwood, Dublin and Pleasanton, though areas with the hottest climates would benefit the most (such as Sacramento, Fresno, Bakersfield and Palm Springs).
The state Water Resources Control Board is considering a maximum reduction of up to four percentage points in state-assigned water cuts, which range from 4% to 36%, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The change would knock the state's 25% conservation target to 22%. [SJMN]
