Palo Alto Housing broke ground Monday on a new affordable housing project in Mountain View. The complex will provide 67 units to low-income veterans and households earning 60% of the Santa Clara County median income. The building at 1701 West El Camino Real will contain 62 studios of 400 SF and five one-bedroom units of about 600 SF. The half-acre project is expected to be completed fall 2018.

The GreenPoint-rated project will include a solar thermal system, energy-efficient HVAC, energy-efficient lighting and water conservation fixtures. Amenities will include roof decks, a community room with a computer lab, a community kitchen and elevator access on each floor. Van Meter Williams Pollack will design the building; Branagh is the general contractor.

Financing for the $33M project will be provided by the City of Mountain View, Santa Clara County, U.S. Bancorp, the State Department of Housing and Community Development, the Veterans Housing and Homelessness Prevention Program, the California Housing Finance Agency, the California Department of Veterans Affairs and Google.

PAH’s property management division will offer on-site property management. PAH’s residential services will partner with a network of service providers, including VA Palo Alto and Adobe Services, to provide various services to residents. Services will help residents with housing stability, promote health and wellness and encourage social interaction.

PAH is a nonprofit company that builds, develops, acquires and manages low- and moderate-income housing in the Bay Area. It has 700 units in the Peninsula.
