The Portland City Council gave the green light this week for the Portland Development Commission to pursue a plan for the full redevelopment of the Centennial Mills property, a former grain mill site. Previously, the PDC formulated plans for either a partial or full redevelopment.
The full redevelopment plan envisions 426 residential units and 17K SF of commercial space, plus creative office and open space, the Portland Business Journal reports. The PDC will probably solicit development offers for the site, which is a prime location on the Willamette River, later in the year, though no timetable has been released yet.
PDC acquired Centennial Mills from ADM Milling Co. in 2000 using urban renewal and City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services funds. The property was acquired to fulfill the River District Urban Renewal Plan's objectives of enhancing the waterfront with public open spaces, and facilitating connectivity between the River District, the Willamette River and the Willamette River Greenway.
