DREAM COME TRUE

If New Jersey’s former Xanadu project were on the fashion pages ofVogue, it would be a Xana-don’t. But now you can bid adieu to the garish facade. Tuesday, Gov. Chris Christie, right, and Triple Five SVP Paul Ghermezian (center, with Jon Hanson, chair of the governor’s special gaming commission) unveiled new design plans and a new name for the entertainment and retail complex—American Dream at Meadowlands. These developments (including a definitive agreement between Triple Five and the banks that own the project) mark the next steps in the Christie administration’s efforts to move the much-delayed project forward and create an economic engine for the state—it’s expected to create more than 8,900 construction jobs over the next two years, up to 35,000 permanent jobs, and 55 million visits a year once it’s up and running in late ’13.
As you can see, the new exterior views address the “maligned existing exterior,” and Triple Five said it understands the public’s displeasure and will improve the look so it fits in with the surrounding area better. Triple Five has 35 years of experience in the development and management of large entertainment and retail projects, including Mall of America in Minnesota and West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada. American Dream at Meadowlands will have many of the attractions found at other Triple Five locations: an enclosed amusement park, indoor water park, ice rink, cinema, aquarium, comedy club, and a dinner and performing arts theater. It'll also have the only indoor ski facility in North America. Total: 1.7M SF of retail space, 1.1M SF of attractions, and 150k SF of dining options.
A picture is worth a thousand colorful words.
