NYC is losing another church to the wrecking ball. Church of the Redeemer, an Episcopal church on Fourth Avenue in Boerum Hill, is slated to be demolished this fall. The Gothic-style stone church, which opened in 1866, is just south of Atlantic Avenue and one long block west of the Barclays Center—making it prime for redevelopment. It was shuttered in 2010 and then sold to Jackson Group, an investment company, for $20M. Church officials said the building's maintenance costs proved to be too much of a burden. A sign at the property indicates that demo work will begin this fall, the Wall Street Journal reports. Future plans for the site have yet to be determined. Demolition Depot previously sent out an email announcing plans to sell contents of the church, including stained-glass windows, doorways of hand-cut stone and pressed-tin ceilings. The email stated that an ideal situation would involve a buyer who wants to reassemble the structure piecemeal at a different location. [WSJ]
