Supertall Boom Could Be Moving On Up To The Upper East Side

NYC’s residential supertall boom has been relegated to the Midtown area (and Brooklyn), but a recent RFP submission hopes to change that and bring the Upper East Side its first entry into the supertall market.

Kohn Pederson Fox has submitted an entry into a design contest for 151 East 60th St, a site that developer Kuafu Properties closed on in October for $300M. No winner has been announced yet and the plans are not definite, NY Yimby reports.

The supertall designed by KFP would rise on the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 60th Street, an assemblage that's capable of hosting a supertall, and could boast permanently unobstructed views guaranteed in all directions from the tower’s upper floors. While the possibility of major revisions typically exists for winning RFP submissions, KFP’s ambitious renderings provide a glimpse at what the future may hold for the Upper East Side.

One thing is for certain, with new condo sales in the city being dominated by supertalls, the boom will not be subsiding anytime soon. [NYY]
