A lawsuit that had held up work on Hudson Cos’ rental tower on the site of the Brooklyn Heights public library has been tossed.
Manhattan Supreme Court judge Dawn Jimenez-Salta ruled that the 36-story tower at 280 Cadman Plaza West can proceed, Crain’s reports. The library branch will get a new home inside the development, and Hudson Cos is paying the library system $40M for the rights to develop on the site.
That money will serve library branches throughout Brooklyn. The news has been well-received by Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration.
“We are pleased that the court recognized that this suit had no merit,” a spokesperson for the Mayor’s office said in a statement.
The suit was filed by Love Brooklyn Libraries, which claimed the city failed to do due diligence in studying the project’s impact on the neighborhood and the environment. The organization is planning to appeal the decision. [Crain’s]
