Extell’s One Manhattan Slapped With Halt Work Order

The Department of Buildings has issued a halt work order for a condo tower on the Lower East Side.

Extell Development and construction manager Lend Lease were hit with the order last week for One Manhattan Square at 252 South St. DOB inspectors found immediately hazardous conditions that prompted the order, The Real Deal reports.

The action was spurred by a complaint from a resident of 286 South St, who reported back in January that construction at the site was causing cracks in her walls. The DOB issued a partial stop-work order on Jan. 14, and followed that up with another violation following a second complaint, which alleged that Extell and Lend Lease failed to halt construction. Lend Lease is working through resolving the matter with the DOB.

One Manhattan Square is a planned 80-story development that will include 815 residential units. The project is slated for completion in 2019. Units will start around $1M each, with a total building sellout coming in at $1.87B. This is Extell’s largest development to date, but far from the only project in its pipeline, which includes plans for a 60-story hotel-condo project at West 54th and Seventh Avenue in a JV with C&K Properties. [TRD]
