A local developer has filed permits to build an 11-story multifamily building where a laundromat now stands in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Brooklyn-based FAC Fulton Street Housing Development Fund Corp. submitted plans for a 113-foot building on 1618 Fulton St. containing 103 apartments on floors two through 11. The ground floor will be split between 7,700 SF of retail space and a 5,400 SF community center, according to N.Y. Yimby.

The New York City Planning Commission approved the plans at a July meeting, where the Department of Housing Preservation and Development's proposal for the building set aside 96 units for housing tenants making 80% to 165% of the area median income. Financing for the project is expected to come from HPD and the New York City Housing Development Corp.

The building will be constructed on an amalgamation of three city-owned lots and five privately owned lots. The only structure on the lots, a laundromat, would have to be demolished to make way, but demolition permits have not yet been filed. Shakespeare Gordon Vlado Architects designed the proposed building.
