Starrett Corp Reveals Plans For 62-Story Tower In Two Bridges

The fourth leg of a 2M SF transformation of the East River waterfront has been revealed.

Starrett Corp revealed its design for a 62-story, 724-foot, 732-unit tower at 259 Clinton St in Two Bridges, The Lo-Down reports. The Perkins Eastman-designed tower will have ground-floor retail, as requested by the city, and will be built on a site Starrett retained after it sold the Lands End 1 housing Complex to L+M and Nelson Management Group in 2015.

In addition to housing for low-income seniors, 25% of the tower’s units will be affordable. Starrett has a history of affordable projects like Stuyvesant Town and Starrett City.

The tower will join L+M Development Partners/CIM Group’s 1M SF mixed-use complex at 260 South St and JDS Development Group’s 77-story mixed-use tower at 247 Cherry St. The three projects are slated to come online at the same time, so the three groups are conducting a joint environmental review of the area. Gary Barnett's Extell Development's One Manhattan Square is also on the rise, but is on a different timetable and not involved in the review.

Area residents have expressed some hesitancy at all this development, but the developers are working to address local concerns. Starrett president Josh Siegel says his firm will limit disruptions and hire local workers during construction, keep the lines of communication open and help qualified locals apply for the affordable units.
