After years of planning and community engagement, Trinity Church has released renderings for 74 Trinity Place in the Financial District.
Located behind the church, between Thames and Rector streets, the 310k SF, 26-story mixed-use building was designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. The firm said the new building would be “a contemporary backdrop for the historic church,” with its glazed panel façade and light metal framework resonating with Trinity’s intricate stonework. The two structures will also be directly linked via a second-story bridge.
Trinity commissioned surveys and held a series of meetings to gauge what neighborhood groups, civic leaders and Lower Manhattan residents wanted from the building.

The nine-floor, 150k SF base (pictured) will house the church’s ministerial and community service programs and is slated to have open public spaces, multipurpose rooms, gathering spaces, family and youth spaces, staff offices, performance areas, a 300-person banquet hall, a library, an education center, a gymnasium, a gallery, a 1k SF art studio and three landscaped terraces.
The remaining 17 floors will have 160k SF of commercial office space, which is being marketed to agencies and nonprofits that support the church’s mission.
Plans have been submitted for review, with groundbreaking slated for early next year. The tower is expected to be completed in late 2019.
