It may have seemed like the day would never come, but Forest City Ratner and partner Greenland finally unveiled a master plan/renderings for an 8-acre green space that will be a key component of the Pacific Park mega-development in Prospect Heights. The park will be woven around a series of development sites. There will be sloping lawns, walkways, shaded benches, glowing lanterns and a water garden. There also will be a host of neighborhood amenities, including a dog run, a public promenade and separate play areas for children and toddlers. The park, which will be open to the public year round, will help to solve the problem of limited green space in the Atlantic Yards corridor. Thomas Balsley, known for Long Island City's Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter's Point South Waterfront Park, will handle the design, the New York Daily News reports. The first phase is scheduled to open next summer, along with two of 16 planned towers: a 278-unit condo complex at 550 Vanderbilt, and 298 units of affordable housing at 535 Carlton. The full build-out is expected to be complete by 2025. The development site is composed of three of the four blocks bounded by Atlantic Avenue, Dean Street, and Sixth and Vanderbilt avenues. Plans call for a total of 2,250 affordable units.  [NYDN]
