We already knew that JDS Development’s 340 Flatbush Ave Ext would be the first building in NYC outside of Manhattan to reach supertall status, but the latest set of permits really helps to bring the sheer scope of the massive project into focus.
The permits show that the building will rise to 1,066 feet, NY Yimby reports. Back in summer 2014, the original plans called for a 775-foot-tall development. By topping out at 1,066 feet, 340 Flatbush Ave Ext beats out any other tower planned or under construction in Brooklyn.
The 73-story tower will span a whopping 556k SF, with 417 residential units accounting for 463k SF of the space. Retail and office will occupy the first four floors, with the fifth floor reserved for a residential lounge with an outdoor terrace.
JDS finalized its $90M acquisition of the Dime Savings Bank at Dekalb Avenue and Fulton Street in December. The landmarked bank’s 300k SF of air rights helped to push the tower past the 1k SF threshold.
Permits will still need to be approved by the DOB, but construction is tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2019. SHoP Architects has been tasked with design for Brooklyn’s first supertall. The architect is also the designer of 111 West 57th St, an 82-story supertall from JDS and Property Markets Group. [NYY]
