Bernie, who was REBNY’s longest-serving chairman during his lifetime, was David’s former partner, and taught him that REBNY plays a critical role in working with NYC in both good times and bad. |
| David (whom we snapped last year with former Empire State Development Corp head Marisa Lago) oversees Vornado’s 22M-SF NY portfolio and tells us that it’s paying special attention to greening its buildings. Five are submitted for LEED certification, five are on the way, and 770 Broadway recently achieved LEED Silver. Also upcoming: completing the development of NYC’s largest co-generation plant at One Penn Plaza and a $125M total redevelopment at 330 Madison. Recently, he and wife Laureine worked with the Jewish National Fund to transform a warehouse in Sderot, Israel (at the border with Gaza) into a protected indoor playground for children who haven’t been able to play safely outside. |
| We also met with Swig Equities SVP Todd Korren, who’s receiving the Young Real Estate Man of the Year Award. Todd, who leases buildings such as 110 William St, 48 Wall St, and 90 Broad St, tells us that he’s finishing deals that will bring his firm’s office portfolio to 95% occupancy. He’s also active with the Downtown Alliance REBNY, and YM/WREA, which are all pursuing the renewal of Commercial Revitalization Program incentives to attract business to the Financial District. At home, he’s an avid traveler with his wife Donna (pictured) and two kids—but that may end, as they’ve adopted a new Coton puppy, and “It’s like having another baby.” |
