TAVERN APPRAISAL; UWS RETAIL; CONTEST

A room full of real estate experts gathered at Tavern on the Green last night, but the restaurant wasn’t being valued before its pending closure. It was The Appraisal Institute Metro NY chapter’s annual dinner and installation ceremony. We dodged the millions of cable guys descending on 30 Rock, as we ran over to check things out.
Frank Liantonio and honoree Brian Corcoran share more than a mustache, great smile, and career at Cushman & Wakefield: the pals have known each other since their days at Long Island’s Chaminade High, and even sold sandwiches together at Marist. Frank was on hand to celebrate his friend’s 25 years of service to the Appraisal Institute.
The evening’s other honoree, Deutsche Bank’s Alex Hesterberg(second from right) also had a chummy surprise: his friend of nearly two decades, DTZ’s Paul Wolfenden, flew in from London to give a speech recognizing Alex’s hard work in the industry—quite a moment for a man who was once told he only had a week to live, but judging from the standing ovation, a lifetime of support. Joining him are Cushman’s Theddi Wright Chappell and John Busi, Citibank’s Dick Lex, and OCC’ s Bob Parson. Theddi also just flew in from Seattle for CUNY’s Legally Green panel discussion today.
Why is Cushman’s Matthew Mondanile grinning? He’s handing the presidency of the chapter over to Regional Appraisal’s Kenneth Wong, so perhaps now he can take a vacation. Rounding out the new officers are Metropolitan Valuation Services’ Steven Schleider(first VP); KTR Real Estate Advisors’ Theresa Nygard (second VP); Cushman’s Eric Lewis (treasurer); and Jerome Haims Realty’s Eric Haims (secretary).
Eric Haims (second from right), joins Appraisers & Planners’ Ruth Agnese, Jacqueline Sciannameo, Anne Teshima, Brown Harris Stevens’ Sharon Locatell, and Albert Valuation Group NY’s Daniel Sciannameo. He tells us the end of the year brings him much estate planning, gift tax, and bankruptcy work, and Sharon adds that the estate-oriented side of the commercial appraisal industry is possibly recognizing a bottom. Daniel simply wanted to wish everyone happy holidays, a prosperous new year, and higher fees.
