| Yesterday afternoon, our friend and sponsor Monday Properties unveiled its $1M lobby renovation and ornate bronze murals at 230 Park (known to you aficionados as the Crown Jewel of Park Ave.) |
| We snapped CEO Anthony Westreich and Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer kicking off the event with the presentation (and subsequent dropping) of a City Proclamation—Scott joked that the shattered glass was just another way of saying mazel tov to Monday for the lobby restoration and mural. Beyer Blinder Belle, the architect, chose the mural to cover the antiquated directory boards in the lobby, an Art Deco sister to Grand Central (the building was once home to New York Central Railroad). It joins a new state-of-the-art security desk at the south side of the building. |
| What better subject for the mural than a train? Anthony and Scott join Landmark Preservation Commission chair Bob Tierney, City Council member Dan Garodnick, and Anthony’s sons Gabriel and Max. The two 6’x14' bronze murals depict the Twentieth Century Limited pulling away from the skyline, with 230 Park in the background. Oil painter Chris Ludlow's compositions served as the blueprint, sculpted by local artist Joan Benefiel, and Brooklyn-based Excalibur Bronze Foundry molded and cast the artwork using the “lost-wax” technique—an ancient craft dating to 2990 BC. |
