Last Thursday, we went to Nat Geo Nights: Untamed at National Geographic Campus. We snapped IMF’s Carolina Suarez and consultant Joseph Thomas.
The happy hour provided guests with an unfiltered look at what it's like to come face-to-face with wild animals, survive extreme environments and make unexpected discoveries with filmmaker, and star of Nat Geo WILD's "Untamed," Filipe DeAndrade, writer/photographer Ryan Bell, and adventure sports photographer Krystle Wright. The event also featured hands-on activities such as themed drink tastings, small bites or trivia. Each guest received a free ticket to the National Geographic Museum for a future visit, which now features the new exhibit Wild: Michael Nichols. After winning Nat Geo’s Wild to Inspire film competition in 2014, DeAndrade spent four months documenting wildlife for Nat Geo WILD and the African Wildlife Foundation. Australian-born adventure sports photographer Krystle Wright lives a semi-nomadic lifestyle in her quest to capture and present unique moments from extreme sports, expeditions and adventures across the globe. She’s camped on a frozen fjord for a month in the Arctic with 23 base jumpers, paraglided in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan, slept on the back of a yacht on the Great Barrier Reef and hung from precarious positions on remote cliff edges — all in the name of pursuing fresh challenges and seeking out new dimensions in her work, stories she shared with the audience on Thursday. Ryan Bell, a Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellow, calls himself a cowboy journalist and told the audience about his many adventures chronicling the great cowboy cultures of the world. He’s saddled up with gauchos in Argentina, Mongolian nomads, and the cowboys, vaqueros and buckaroos of North America. Most recently, he spent a year traveling through Russia and Kazakhstan where local farmers have teamed up with American ranchers and cowboys to rebuild a meat industry that was decimated by the collapse of the Soviet Union. Here, Bell is flanked by his wife, Madeleine, and friend Mike Kazarian.
