Industrial warehouse giant Prologis is putting more resources behind its climate goals with a key hire.

San Francisco-based Prologis has appointed Susan Uthayakumar as the firm’s new chief sustainability and energy officer, the firm announced Tuesday, placing her in charge of the company’s wide-ranging efforts to decarbonize and achieve global carbon-neutral construction emissions by 2025.

Uthayakumar, recently president of Schneider Electric's sustainability business division and a 2021 Environment+Energy Leader 100 Honoree, will focus on building out more sustainable shipping and supply chain infrastructure for its mostly business-to-business and retail clients, who are under increasing pressure to meet ESG goals.

"Customers today are looking for a partner who can help them achieve their sustainability goals in innovative new ways while running their businesses as effectively as possible," Uthayakumar said in a statement. "That will be my focus at Prologis."

Prologis says it is currently on track to add 400 megawatts of solar capacity on its buildings by 2025 and sells green bonds to finance more sustainable industrial facilities. As of September, the firm controlled a portfolio spanning 994M SF across 19 countries.
