Smart-Building Tech Is Transforming Oxford’s Portfolio

Oxford Properties Group — co-developer of Hudson Yards — this week launched a collaboration with Rogers Communications and RYCOM (a property management firm) to implement the Cisco Smart Building platform across its entire Canadian commercial and retail portfolio by the end of 2017.

Cisco’s platform, first deployed by Oxford six years ago and piloted at RBC WaterPark Place, is transforming its portfolio — $20B in assets under management, comprising 50M SF of retail and office properties — into smart, connected buildings.

The Cisco technology gives tenants the tools to drive operational efficiencies in their spaces, ultimately improving overall business yields, said Oxford senior vice president Andrew McAllan.

Data and insights gathered via Cisco’s technology provide property owners and tenants with deeper understandings of space utilization, energy consumption, security and environmental and maintenance needs, according to Oxford.

This helps to create a better environment for employees, customers and business operations. Such insights shaped the design and development of Oxford’s EY Tower.

Cisco's innovation centre at Toronto’s WaterPark Place — one of nine worldwide — showcases smart building solutions, including individual HVAC controls and digital ceilings, which link building services via a single IP network.
