NYC Real Estate Dynasty To Tech Startup: Rudin Family Unveils Building With A Brain

The family behind Rudin Management launched the company Prescriptive Data—a new tech startup that equips buildings with a “brain” to reduce energy usage and costs.

Prescriptive Data’s operating system monitors the weather, electricity use and elevator use, and then recommends ways to reduce that usage based on the building’s needs, the Wall Street Journal reports. The firm estimates the system will save landlords around $0.50/SF, and is considering charging annual fees of $0.075 to $0.08/SF.

Despite the Rudins investing $5M into Prescriptive Data, it isn’t the only player in the space—competitors include tech firms like Senseware and Aquicore, who offer similar software. [WSJ]
