Dulles Corridor's First Ever Tech Tenant

Software AG moved into the Dulles corridor in 1972, long before that stretch leading to the airport became known as a tech hub. We checked in with the big data, integration, and biz process technologies firm to hear about the next 40 years. Software AG US CEO Jay Johnson says enterprise software spending is expected to grow 6.8% in the next year. So the company is working on enhancing its analytics and cloud products and introducing new ones. Jay, who started his tech career at Xerox, says one of Software AG’s newest products is the Internet of Things solutions accelerator. The tools help users get actionable insight from different data sources in real time.

The German company, which has 330 employees in the DC area and $1.3B in global revenue, has been expanding its US sales, management, government solutions, and technical staff. Jay says the government solutions group has done well despite tightening budgets. Why? Agencies have a growing need for big data analytics, which provides network and operations insight and helps reduce their data center footprint. Commercial revenue is at 60% and government makes up the rest. The company is also looking to the entrepreneurial startup community as potential reseller partners and acquisition targets. Software AG acquired JackBe, an analytics and intelligence software firm founded in 2001 in Chevy Chase, Md., last year.
