A new fitness concept wants to provide new moms and moms-to-be with a quality workout and a like-minded community of peers.

FPC, which launched recently in Manhattan, offers typical cardio, yoga and strength training classes, though each class is designed specifically for women who are pregnant or recently gave birth.

The gym aims to help women determine the best way to work out during and after pregnancy in order to prepare for childbirth and reconstruct the body after the fact, Fast Company reports. The gym boasts workouts for pregnant women that are not gentle, but meant to make members sweat while ensuring the safety of each participant.

The concept was formed by co-founders Joanie Johnson and Carolina Gunnarsson — both of whom experienced difficulties maintaining an appropriate level of fitness during their pregnancies and found most gyms or personal trainers either pushed them too hard or forced them to take it too easy.

FPC is currently taking up residence in a loft in SoHo with neighbors including Aritzia and Bliss Spa. But in addition to being a fitness studio, the space is also used as a place where women can meet and gather information from workshops and events about topics such as breast-feeding and infant health.
