Amazon brought in the holiday season yesterday by unveiling its new drone prototype—the first shown publicly since announcing its drone plans two years ago—which is expected to reduce package deliveries from days to just 30 minutes.
Combining the general body of an airplane with some more helicopter-like parts, the Amazon drone can fly 15 miles and climb to 400 feet, Amazon claims. Taking a page out of Santa's book, Amazon says it wants to fly packages directly to customers’ doorsteps, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The online retail giant is facing regulatory issues with its planned unmanned delivery system, but is pressing forward with drone research and overseas tests. [WSJ]
