The closings will total 6M SF and 3,111 layoffs across 20 states—VA leads with six stores going by the wayside.
The average store is 155k SF, but the closed Pittsburgh store hit 1.15M SF by itself, while the smallest store, in Roseburg, OR, filled only 40k SF.
Two stores—one in LA, another in West Orange, NJ—are being replaced by new and improved Macy’s digs, with one turning into Macy’s Backstage, the company’s discount brand.
