$2B Virginia Beach Data Center Park Aims To Draw Top Users Like Snapchat, IBM

Holland data center provider NxtVn is planning to spend between $1.5B and $2B to construct a major data center hub in Virginia Beach.

The company wants to attract top users like Snapchat, IBM and Uber to its newest park, and there is a good chance they will take the bait. Experts said there is growing demand for data centers in Virginia Beach, particularly because it is the only landing point in the region for transatlantic cables, the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Development of the 1.4M SF center could start by the end of the year, with some experts projecting it could be the largest data park on the East Coast.

Though data center evolution is still somewhat in its infancy, it is evolving rapidly as tech companies increasingly take to the cloud. Experts are anticipating these assets will gain momentum due to influence from the new presidential administration and federal mandates for data center optimization. In its Q4 report, CBRE said the industry is poised for growth, with latency requirements, access to interconnection points and cloud hubs continuing to drive demand and propelling growth in the largest data center markets.
