Colliers International has recruited former SL Green Realty Vice President David Amsterdam to be its new president of investments, leasing and the Eastern region.

Amsterdam will lead offices in top-tier cities like Boston, New York and Washington, D.C., in his new role, the Toronto-based real estate services firm announced Thursday.

“I am very excited to join Colliers and assume a leadership role in driving the company’s future growth in the Eastern Region, especially in New York City, the world’s most important real estate market,” Amsterdam said in a prepared statement. “Colliers has demonstrated a commitment to hiring a world-class leadership team and I look forward to capitalizing on the many opportunities we see that will bring value to our clients and our professionals.”

Amsterdam was with Cushman & Wakefield for seven years before working for SL Green from 2011 until 2016. He left to work for the 2017 New York City mayoral campaign of former Cushman & Wakefield executive Paul Massey, who challenged current Mayor Bill de Blasio. Amsterdam worked for United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills before starting his CRE career.

The announcement of his new position comes months after Colliers tapped former CBRE Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer Gil Borok to be its new chief operating officer.

“Growing our New York business is a top priority for Colliers,” Colliers U.S. Brokerage President Marty Pupil said in a prepared statement. “Attracting a well-respected brokerage leader like David is evidence of our dedication to growth as we continue to strengthen our operations regionally, nationally and globally. Under his leadership, I expect our Eastern Region to gain significant market share, increase our new business wins and acquire additional top-tier talent.”
