The largest federally subsidized US housing complex, Spring Creek Towers, just got served for turning down families using rent vouchers, a violation of New York Human Rights, a lawsuit argues. The vouchers are part of NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's Living in Communities Rental Assistance program, which started last September and grants rent subsidies to those in homeless shelters. Regina Alston and Sandra Vaughn-Cooke, two original plaintiffs, claim Spring Creek's property managers—who control the 46-building, 5,881-apartment complex—discriminated against their application based on their source of income. The two women are joined by the Fair Housing Justice Center.
