Lorcan O’herlihy-Designed Project Proposed For West Hollywood, Calif.

The West Hollywood planning commission has unanimously rejected a five-story residential and retail project a developer hoped to build on Beverly Boulevard and Sherbourne Drive in West Hollywood. The site is near the old Jerry's Famous Deli building, now the Granville Café.

During last week's vote, the commission had concerns the project would be out of character for the neighborhood.

The developer, Arash Danialifar, wanted to tear down the Peppermint Club at 8713 Beverly Blvd., and use the property and a parking lot to build a 41K SF development, WEHOville reports.

The project included two five-story buildings connected by catwalks on the upper floors. It was designed by Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects.

There would also be 9,700 SF of retail and office space.

Five of the 30 units were to be set aside for lower-income residents.

While the area is zoned for up to three-story buildings at a maximum, the developer was requesting permission to add two more floors. It would have also required an exemption to setback requirements for local developments.

Some area residents voiced concerns about increased traffic.

The planning commission had concerns about setting precedent if it approved the project.
