Four property owners are in trouble with the City of LA for allegedly operating apartment buildings as hotels or short-term rentals.
LA city attorney Mike Feuer has filed charges against the owners of the properties for operating illegally and advertising as hotels.
Civil cases were filed against the owners of three apartment buildings. Each property is subject to the LA Rent Stabilization Ordinance, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal. Two of the buildings are in Venice; the other is in Hollywood.
Feuer also filed charges against the owner of a building in the Fairfax district. That owner is being charged with allegedly evicting tenants of the building illegally to accommodate Airbnb customers. Affordable apartments in all of the buildings were taken off the market, according to the city.
A hearing will take place days from now before the LA City Council regarding an ordinance that could place limits on short-term rentals, including Airbnb. [LABJ]
