Beverly Hills Hotel And Retailers Continue To Lure Chinese Visitors

Retailers and hotels in Beverly Hills aim to lure tourists from China with special accommodations.

Chinese visitors continue to arrive to the U.S., flexing their spending capital. Hotels and retailers in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles are doing what they can to accommodate them, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Here is what some high-end retailers and hotels are doing:

  • The Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel offers pillowcases monogrammed in Chinese characters and a Mandarin-speaking personal shopper to take Chinese visitors around Rodeo Drive and other luxury shopping destinations.

  • The Four Seasons Los Angeles has Chinese menus, traditional-style slippers, robes and it posts content to Chinese social media platform WeChat.

  • Barneys New York, Cartier and other high-end retailers will decorate their storefronts for Chinese New Year in February.

For the past several years, visitors from China have become the most in-demand customers for retailers, especially in Beverly Hills and others parts of Los Angeles, where 1.3 million of the 3 million tourists visit, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Chinese tourists spend more — an average of $7K/visit to the U.S. compared to $2,500 from other international visitors, according to the U.S. Travel Association.

Last year, Chinese tourists spent $33B, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. The number of visitors from China was up 15% in the number of arrivals and 9% in spending from the previous year, the August report states.

Do not expect the trend to stop. For the past 13 years, visitors from China have increased while other international markets have dropped off.
