We are used to skyscrapers competing for tenants, but now they are physically attacking each other.
On Tuesday a steel beam being lifted by a crane on the site of a new City of London tower, 22 Bishopsgate, swung into the neighbouring Cheesegrater tower. No one was injured.
But the incident did leave a big hole in the Cheesegrater, which was sold for £1.15B earlier this year.
“Multiplex, our main contractor at 22 Bishopsgate, has informed us that on 1 August a tower crane working on site was lifting a steel beam which damaged a small part of the external glazing of the Leadenhall Building," AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets, which part owns and manages 22 Bishopsgate, said in a statement.
“The building is safe, there were no injuries and work is underway to replace the damaged section.”
