SpaceShare launches in Houston.

SpaceShare, a new peer-to-peer shared workspace platform, has launched in the Houston area. Using the platform, tenants and companies can advertise unused or underutilized space.

The platform, which is owned by NAI Partners but operated independently, was designed to match individual or corporate users with tenants that have a surplus of office, industrial or retail space.

"SpaceShare is focused on unlocking the revenue potential in those extra offices, or unused warehouse areas, or underused retail spaces where sharing of space and amenities makes sense," NAI Partners Vice President Larry Koestler said in a release.

Compared to traditional subleasing, SpaceShare is a simplified process that can provide space at a lower cost. The company said its platform promotes flexibility through its space-sharing arrangements where a person can rent an empty office, a desk or a cubicle. In most cases, tenants can also use shared amenities and common areas.

Individuals can search the platform's online listings database, reach out to the platform's experts once they have selected a space and then start utilizing their new space within days. If an office user cannot find an ideal space, users can check out its sister platform, SwiftLease, which provides more traditional sublease opportunities for small office users.

So far, SpaceShare has about 20 leaseable single office rooms available in Houston submarkets including Spring Branch, Greenway Plaza, Westchase, Greenspoint, Sugar Land and the Energy Corridor. As the site continues to grow, the platform will expand throughout Texas and the nation.
