SEARCH Homeless Services, an important organization particularly in Downtown and Midtown Houston, is breaking ground on a new HQ on Monday.
Studio RED is designing the 27k SF facility at 2015 Congress Ave, which will include employment services and a care hub with a chapel, training rooms, collaborative workspace, admin offices and an open terrace. It'll be on the same block as Loaves and Fishes (which feeds the homeless), creating a tight site for Arch-Con to build. The team (including Forney Partnership) will put up extra fencing and focus on communication so the homeless can continue to be served there. There will be remediation to a portion of the site, which could change the schedule. The project is funded by the org’s capital campaign plus a Texas Homeless Housing Services program grant from the Houston Housing and Community Development Department. Each year, SEARCH helps thousands of people move from the streets into jobs and safe, stable housing.
SEARCH has lots of commercial real estate involvement and support—its annual luncheon this spring honoring E3 Electric CEO Steve Jackson (pictured) was a veritable who’s who of our industry. McCord Development president Ryan McCord, Arch-Con CEO Michael Scheurich and his wife, JLL president Dan Bellow and EVP Mike Boehler, and others serve on its committees and host volunteering events. Studio RED partner Pete Ed Garrett and his team have been particularly involved with SEARCH for seven years, including providing pro bono services to renovate the current HQ (only two blocks from Studio RED’s), and IDing sites for the new building and a second House of Tiny Treasures for the kids of SEARCH’s clients.
