A new pathway connecting two stretches of the Buffalo Bayou trail by linking Travis and Smith streets is complete, and city bigwigs are set to celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow. This project is part of the city's expansive greening project that will link all of Houston’s bayous and create a wide-ranging trail system.
The total cost for this chunk of the project was just over $16M. The lion’s share of the money came from a USDOT Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant.
Six separate TIGER projects are expected to improve bike and pedestrian mobility in Houston, and to connect residences, employment centers, and bus and rail. Amenities planned for the pathway include new signs, benches, bike racks, trash bins, lighting, trees and other landscaping, and a shuttle between two University of Houston campuses.
