Amazon Strikes Tax Deal For New Katy Facility

Amazon

Amazon and Waller County have come to an agreement for the e-commerce giant's new 1M SF facility on 80 acres just east of Woods Road and Interstate 10. The City of Katy annexed the land earlier this month, and Waller County officials approved a tax rebate deal for the company shortly after.

The 20-year deal will refund 50% of Amazon's taxes on the facility if the combined property and inventory value exceeds $100M. The agreement also requires Amazon employ at least 800 people and hold an annual job fair.

After rebates, Waller County is expected to generate around $500K a year in tax revenue for a total economic impact of nearly $200M, according to the Greater Houston Partnership. A similar tax break was worked with Harris County for Amazon's facility in Pinto Business Park.

In a release, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said "[the investment] shows a significant long-term commitment to help create a diverse and sustainable local economy, which benefits everyone in the county. Amazon will be a very welcome addition to our corporate community.”
