America's fastest-growing city is a Houston suburb, but which one may surprise you. According to newly released census data, Conroe grew at a rate of 7.8% from 2015 to 2016, adding more than 13,500 new residents. Three other Texas cities were in the top five. Frisco, McKinney and Georgetown followed Conroe on the list, all recording more than 5% annual growth.

For years, Harris County led the nation in population gains until recently being dethroned by Phoenix's Maricopa County. The Houston area primarily consisting of Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery County slipped behind Dallas and San Antonio in terms of population growth, narrowly beating out Austin.

"Since the 2010 census, the population in large Southern cities grew by an average of 9.4%. In comparison, cities in the West grew 7.3%, while cities in the Northeast and Midwest had much lower growth rates at 1.8% and 3%, respectively.”
