Tanglewood Corp. announced that it will redevelop the site of its commercial headquarters into a 33-story luxury residential high-rise building in the Tanglewood neighborhood.

1661 Tanglewood will incorporate a neo-classical design and will feature an array of amenities, including a skyline pool deck, exercise, social and business facilities, underground parking, landscaped gardens and an arrival portico. On-site services will include a full-time concierge, a doorman and smart-home technology.

The 1.3-acre property is located at 1661 Tanglewood Blvd., less than a mile from Post Oak Boulevard, and close to the Uptown Houston district. When completed, the property will offer unobstructed views of Houston in every direction. The project was designed by Jackson & Ryan Architects.

The Tanglewood neighborhood was established in 1949 by William Giddings Farrington, the founder of Tanglewood Corp., and is now led by Kendall Miller, his grandson, with the support of his siblings.

According to the family-owned firm, the property has always been earmarked for commercial development. When 1661 Tanglewood Blvd. was first platted, the corner was reserved for commercial or residential use and was declared unrestricted in the neighborhood deed restrictions.

However, development of the site has not been without controversy. The Tanglewood Homes Association filed a lawsuit in 2019 to prevent the possibility of a high-rise tower on the property.
