Could Skanska USA begin construction of its 35-story, 750K SF office building Capitol Tower this year? A crane was erected on-site at 800 Capitol St. over the weekend, an indication of Skanska's confidence that office leasing is improving.
Skanska is waiting to start vertical construction until pre-leasing goals are met. No leases have been announced.
In a statement, Skanska spokeswoman Beth Miller said, "The mobilization of equipment at the Capitol Tower site signals our optimism that the marketplace will present new opportunities for the project as we move through 2017."
Leasing will be competitive as millions of square feet of sublease space are still on the market, as well as hundreds of thousands of square feet under construction at the neighboring Hines project 609 Main.
