A new broadcast headquarters for public radio and television station KERA is part of the plans for a mixed-use development headed for Uptown.
The media organization has entered into a partnership with Kaizen Development Partners that allows the developer to build new residential units and Class-A office towers on 2.4 acres at the southern edge of KERA’s property, according to a news release.

Kaizen will also oversee the development of a new station HQ for KERA, built on 1.4 acres at the property’s northern edge. Corgan will design the building, and Gardiner & Theobald will serve as project manager.
“It’s a privilege to partner with KERA on this generational opportunity,” Kaizen CEO and Managing Partner Derrick Evers said in a statement. “KERA has been a pillar of the community for decades, so for us to have a small role in helping them extend their mission and be participatory in the execution is very meaningful.”
KERA has been located at its facility on Harry Hines Boulevard since its launch in 1960. Over the years, the organization has expanded its programming and services and formed new partnerships, prompting the need for more space.
“North Texans have relied on KERA for essential news and programming for over 60 years, but our current facilities simply aren’t equipped to meet the needs of our growing community for the next 60 years and beyond.” KERA President and CEO Nico Leone said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to work with Kaizen to develop a new building that allows us to better serve and connect with the North Texas community — now and for generations to come.”
KERA plans to temporarily relocate to a new facility during construction, which is set to begin next year.
