A Sears store in Lincoln Square will see a second life as a mixed-use TOD under a proposal from Springbank Real Estate Group. The store at 1900 West Lawrence Ave is one of scores of Sears locations being shuttered by Sears Holdings. The store is expected to close next month.

Springbank, which specializes in TODs, wants to adapt the store into 40 apartments, 34k SF of ground-level retail, 20 parking spaces for residents and an additional 90 for retail shoppers, and restore the building's facade to its original Art Deco design, according to DNAInfo. The project qualifies as a TOD because the store is steps from the Metra Union Pacific North Line station.

This store is one of seven Sears locations on Preservation Chicago's 2016 Chicago 7 list of endangered buildings. Sears commissioned seven Chicago stores in the early 20th century; only two of the buildings still serve their original purpose. [DNA]
