IKEA broke ground on a second distribution center in Joliet, doubling down (pun intended) on its commitment to make Joliet its Midwestern hub.
The furniture giant's 1.2M SF center will be on 72 acres in the Laraway Crossings Business Park, 48 miles from Chicago. When it's delivered in spring 2018, the facility will serve as both a distribution hub and a customer fulfillment center for Midwestern customers.
IKEA has stores in Bolingbrook and Schaumburg, and purchased a wind turbine farm in downstate Hoopeston that is now operational.
