The face of the Illinois Medical District continues to change with the announcement the organization reached an agreement with a suburban ambulance company to build the largest ambulance garage in Cook County. Superior Ambulance will build a new 26K SF ambulance facility that will bring more than 100 permanent jobs to the area.

Superior has five Cook County stations in Evanston, Schaumburg, Oak Brook, Markham and on Chicago's North Side. This facility is expected to be a boon for the IMD, which sees 80,000 patients daily between the four hospitals on its campus. The facility will include ambulances, wheelchair vans, transit vans and couriers and will be large enough to store equipment from partnering hospitals. As part of the agreement, 51% of Superior's new hires will come from the IMD's surrounding neighborhoods, including Pilsen, East Garfield Park and North Lawndale.

The Illinois Medical District is in the midst of a change. It is leveraging 40 acres of vacant land for redevelopment and revenue-generation opportunities.
