Any TOD worth its salt needs a T-stop and the $500M Boston Landing complex being developed by New Balance is getting a $20M station that for the first time in 50 years will restore public rail service in Allston that goes west to the ‘burbs and east into downtown. Construction officially got underway on Tuesday with completion slated for fall ’16.
Boston Landing at Allston-Brighton will be built to MBTA and Mass DOT specs on the existing railroad right of way along the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line. The 780-foot center island platform, ADA accessible via elevators, will also have a New Balance Hubway bicycle share station and bike racks. In 1962, three Allston-Brighton stations were closed for the Mass Turnpike extension; two were demolished and one converted into a restaurant.
