Boston benefits again from space-constrained Cambridge. Amazon announced Wednesday that it plans to take up space in WeWork’s new Back Bay location at 31 St. James St. The e-commerce behemoth will lease two of the three available floors, the Boston Globe reports.
While the lease size was undisclosed, it is surely smaller than the 200k SF Amazon was seeking. Cambridge does not have enough vacant space to accommodate such an expansion. While the company will retain 171k SF in Kendall Square, its new Back Bay home is the latest example of Cambridge's life science and pharmaceutical industry edging out its traditional tech and startup community.
