| The Swiss-based firm established its global HQ for research here because Cambridge has elements for cutting edge research in every high school class you hated—biology and chemistry—and some you didn't know existed: infomatics, computer modeling, and biotech. Novartis started construction on a three-building lab complex designed by Maya Lin and Toshiko Mori in the spring and expects completion in ’15. Then the company will leave some leased space and have a true campus here. Jeff says it also has real estate projects under way in Shanghai and Basel.
