The Deal Sheet

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is nearing completion on construction of its largest single building. Its real estate chief,Maria Papola (who will be a panelist at Bisnow's Wednesday breakfast, sign up today) says the 500k SF Yawkey Center for Cancer Care is expected to open by Feb. 1.
This is the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca design (with Miller Dyer Spears) for the new $320M patient care building at 450 Brookline Ave. in the LMA. With the new facility in its portfolio, Dana-Farber will operate 2.1M SF, most of which it owns. Once Yawkey is up and running, Maria told us that will free up 110k SF that Dana-Farber will repurpose. Most likely, it will be used for clinical admin space to ?allow for some recruitment.? Over the next few years, Maria says there will be some expansion for pediatric care. Looking five years out, it may develop some new space for imaging services. Conditions in the financial markets have slowed the rate of expansion, but Dana-Farber is still on the move since most projects are self-financed. But the new healthcare law, Maria told us, has led to uncertainty in long-term planning for patient care space needs. Get more specifics on the short- and long-term at Dana-Farber by coming this Wednesday to Bisnow'sHealth Care Real Estate Summit.
