Rebuilding for the Holidays

It's the time of year when everyone wants to know about non-profits that are lifting spirits. Here?s a few of the volunteers from Grand Circle Corp, who worked for Rebuilding Together Boston to do $40k worth of repairs to the Dorchester home of an elderly working woman at no cost to her. RTB?s Simone Auster tells us that last month, the skilled labor RTB hired completed the renovation of this Charlotte Street two-family home. Both groups installed a new kitchen, new lighting, renovated a bathroom, did interior/exterior painting and landscaping. RTB?s goal is to help struggling city homeowners and non-profits keep up their properties.
This fall, RTB has eight projects underway in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, and here's a group of about 150 volunteers that completed renovations on a two-family home in Mattapan on National Rebuilding Day in April. Simone says that in Boston 50% of housing was built prior to ?39, and of homeowner households, 40% are low, or extremely low income. RTB aims to help preserve the affordable housing stock in the city, reduce the risk of homelessness, reduce energy costs, and stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods. It also pitches in to help non-profits that provide essential community services repair and renovate their facilities. If they're as organized as the photographer who got them to pose like this, they're in good shape
